Are innovation and research-development the same in essence in hungary?
Innovation and research-development are not the same in essence, they are treated as different activities in hungary.
Research-development is defined in laws in hungary as follows
Under Hungarian legislation, research-development activities include those that have the all following general characteristics at the same time:
Novelty: Its result being new, not known in this form and/or with this characteristics (not part of technology as exist at the time).
It is based on a unique idea: It is created on the basis of a unique, non-apparent idea and concept.
Technical and technological uncertainty: The result is not obvious, an expert cannot simply arrive to the particulat conclusion, due to the uncertainties around implementation.
Experimenting: In each case, creation of the result requires systematic and documented experimenting.
Innovation is of two types:
Corporate innovation
No research-development activities are required for its implementation, novelty emerges on corporate and/or industry level.
Example: A civil engineering company not yet engaged in boring expands its scope of capacities by purchasing a new boring equipment from the market, and thus it expands its service offering. Introduction and application of a boring techniogy requires no research-development activities.
Research-development activity
Due to the high extent of its novelty and technical-technological uncertainties, the end-product may be realised by experimenting only.
Example: The same civil engineering company develops a new curtaining construction procedure and an device for this purpose, taking into consideration local conditions. It must perform experiments for the creation of the new procedure and the device, as no device working on this principle is available in the market. The business can now expand its service offering by using the new curtaining technology developed by the company.
Why should we have this knowledge?
Because allowances in Hungary are available primarily for research-development activities.
